January Winter Activities
We have been really busy this past month with skiing and snowshoeing. The highlight of this month though was our avalanche safety course and our backcountry skiing debut.
We've wanted to get into Alpine Touring (AT) skiing for some time so before heading out into the backcountry we thought it wise to take an avalanche safety course. We learned A LOT and are probably now more paranoid than we ever thought! The weekend after the course we rented AT skiis from MEC and headed out to Paul's Ridge which is near Squamish. It's a great area where the runs are of relatively low angle (about 20degrees) hence minimal to no chance of avalanches. We did however find a great bowl which would have been just perfect to ski however based on our assessment we determined was not safe (to validate our prediction we dug a pit and did a rutschblock test. The test did validate our assessement - there was chance of failure, hence an avalanche).
Enjoy our PICTURES.
