WEEKEND OF FUN!!!! WOOWOOWOOWOO!!!!
Tom & I headed to Whistler for a 3 day weekend of skiing...but we weren't alone! Brian, Tatiana and Jackie flew all the way from T.O. to join us!!!
Brian arrived on Thursday night so he got to spend the day on Friday exploring Vancouver. We went for a walk along the boardwalk in English Bay and then in Stanley Park. We had a really good sushi lunch and ended off with a movie (Pursuit of Happiness - really good!). That evening, while the boys went out for their seafood dinner, I rented the minivan and headed over to the airport to pick up Tatiana and Jackie. Unfortunately for them, they're flight was delayed about 1 hour so they were super tired by the time they arrived but super hyped up for our weekend of fun!
Saturday morning at 6:30 am we all packed into the minivan with all 4 suitcases, 4 pairs of skis, ski boots and poles, food and some celebrity gossip magazines (courtesy of the girls) and headed up to Whistler!!!! Our first day of skiing was amazing. It was raining at the bottom but at the top it was only snowing for a bit. For the first runs of the day (and the first this year for Brian and the first since 2002 for Tatiana) everyone was challenged! Tom ended up bringing Brian on a nice double black whereas Tatiana leaded us off the blue run on to a black run where she ended up going down moguls and ended up getting a little air at the bottom as she went off a little roll!!! Despite my momentary panic, she proved that was perfectly capable; she made it without falling (and a lot of screaming!!!). That night we checked into our hotel, Brian and Tom went for a dip in the outdoor hot tub in the rain while us girls relaxed with some nice red wine.
Sunday morning we were back off again! We were however missing one person: Tatiana had decided to take a well deserved day off (she had come straight to Vancouver after a crazy week of studying and midterms!). Jackie, Brian, Tom & I decided to ski Blakcomb. After 3 lifts (about 40 minutes) we were at the peak chair above all the clouds of rain at the bottom but in a snowy cloud. It wasn't very clear but it did get better as the day went on. Towards the end of the day, we were actually in between 2 layers of clouds. The skiing was amazing! There was a big dump of fresh snow the night before so we definitely had great conditions. We did some seriously steep runs which one of them Jackie had to slide down the top portion because her skis were too long and she couldn't get them out of the snow! Pauvre Ja-coucou!!! On that same run, Brian almost got taken down by a flying ski (a guy fell and some other person higher up decided to throw the lost ski down to the fallen guy and Brian happened to be in the way), Jackie and I watched some crazy guys stand above a ridge of snow where one of them created a small avalanche! About 3 significantly sized snow balls rolled down the hill along with a cloud of snow. As we watched it come to the end of its journey, we decided to ski out of the way as quickly as possible!!!! What a day! After skiing we drove back to our lodge where snacks and a great dinner (ceasar salad, fresh bread, pasta with Tomato and Vodka sauce and brownie dessert) were awaiting us, all prepared by Tatiana. (But before dinner, we did go for a little soak in the hot tub!).
Monday, we packed all our stuff back into the van and headed for our third and final day of skiing at Whistler. Unfortunately the conditions were not too good. It was raining at the bottom and snowing and cloudy at the top. The visibility was awful and, at times, it was actually stressful to ski because you could hardly see where you were going. The snow was also really wet and heavy and our jackets were all wet. Needless to say, we weren't too enthusiastic about skiing. We ended up at the lodge at the top of the mountain for lunch around 1pm and ended up leaving around 2:30pm! None of us were too excited about having to go back out skiing. We ended up driving in some not too good conditions for a little bit but arrived in Vancouver safely about 2.5 hours later where it was nice and rainy (you thought I was going to say "sunny" didn't you!). We had a great dinner at Earl's and all fell asleep nice and early.
Tuesday, Tom went back to work, Brian went to work at the Vancouver Accenture office and then flew back that evening. Jackie was back at her studying and Tatiana and I spent the day walking around the beach, Stanley Park and then took the Ferry Bus over to Granville Island. We had a great dinner, which was prepared by Tom and Tatiana and then watched last weeks episode of Grey's Anatomy (OH MY GOD MEREDITH!!!!!).
Wednesday, the girls final day here, Tatiana and I spent the day shopping and Jackie joined us around 4pm for some coffee and a visit to Lululemon where Tatiana had to buy a new pair of pants (her new jeans had split!!!! lol!!!). We ended the day off with a nice dinner at Bridge's.
Thursday morning, Tom left for work in a mad rush around 8:20am and then Tatiana and Jackie left for the airport in a mad rush around 9:40am. With all the great excitement and company I've had for the last couple of days, my apartment seems very empty and too quiet...oh well. I guess they'll just have to come back!!!!
Enjoy the PICTURES!
