LOST
As you may or may not know, Tom & I are LOST fanatics! We watch it religiously, we check out different websites for possible theories, watch all the extra videos and listen to the producer's podcasts on the ABC website. Yes, yes, we are losers but we're proud to be LOST losers!
Last week our friends Behnoosh and Greg had us over for dinner and to watch LOST on Thursday so we thought we'd do the same this week. We invited our friends who are also fanatics and, after searching the internet for LOST party ideas, came up with a successfull themed dinner party full of secret (and also not so secret) LOST references.

Snowshoeing on a beautiful Sunday
Sunday, February 24th, we went snowshoeing on Seymour Mt. which is in North Vancouver (about 40mins north of downtown Vancouver). We met one of Tom's coworkers, Pred, at the base. After strapping on our snowshoes, we began our 7 km trek up the mountain. It was a beautiful sunny day. It was a great workout and we got some beautiful views of English Bay, downtown Vancouver and even Vancouver Island it was so clear! We had a nice chili lunch and a rest at the top. Now the best part of snowshoeing is going down - you get down on your bum and slide down! I had super snow pants on and I would get some serious speed - It was soooo much fun!!!!

More Blackcomb Adventures...
On Sunday January 13th, the first weekend after our Costa Rican adventures, we decided we needed some winter activities - so we headed out to Blackcomb for some skiing. Our friend Ariel joined us and we had a lot of fun. It was a great clear & sunny day.
Here are some PICTURES, enjoy!
Costa Rica Rainforest Adventures!!!
On December 27th 2007 we flew from Toronto to San Jose, Costa Rica via Charlottetown North Carolina. We arrived in the afternoon to a nice warm day. We stayed our first night in Alejuella and the next morning we started off our adventure by van-bus to La Fortuna, about 3 hours north.
The drive was good but it was unfortunately raining in La Fortuna, apparently this was their rainy season. The main reason we wanted to go there was to see the volcano but we never ended up seeing it because of the clouds :( Our first day there, we went on a short hike in a reserve which brought us to a nice view of some waterfalls. On the way back we walked into downtown La Fortuna and started buying some souvenirs! It was a nice little town but a little too touristy for what we were looking for. The next day, Dec. 29th, it was raining a lot so the hotel owner suggested we take the canyoneering tour which was a hike through a river in the rain forest with repels down 5 waterfalls (note - the tallest waterfall that we repelled down was 200ft high!!!!). Right in the middle of our hike in the rain forest, our guides told us to cannonball from the top of a 4ft waterfall into this small little area where the river went really deep. As the first person to go, I refused so I slid in, but Tom....oh Tom...he decided to trust these guides and cannonballed in but came out with a bloody knee! He ended up bashing his knee right on a pointy rock on his way down. The guide wrapped his knee with gauze and finished it off with duct tape to keep it dry but we still had 3 more repells, a hike up out of the canyon and then a 30 min drive to a restaurant for lunch! After lunch, it was still bleeding so that's when we decided that we needed to find a private clinic. In the end, Tom's ok and he got 2 stitches from a nice Costa Rican doctor who's assistant was a paramedic who only spoke Spanish. Yes, Tom was limping for a few days and on Advil for the rest of the trip but we still went on some more hikes!
The next day we took the jeep-boat-jeep tour (not recommended if you want something authentic, by the way) to Monteverde where we spent the next 2 days hiking the many reserves. We stayed in the best hotel: Terra Viva which was a dairy farm. The owners were amazing and the husband happened to be a biologist who was going to be our guide on our 2 day & 1 night hike into the Monteverde Reserve - how convenient! So on Jan 1st 2008 around 8am, we left for our hike into the rain forest. We learned a lot about the plants, animals, insects, and more! About 8kms later we ended up at what was to be our shelter for the night. It used to be an old farm but was bought over by the reserve to increase the amount of natural habitat for animals and plants. The shelter was really cool and had running water! (from a spring which Tom and our guide had to go repair). The old farm used to be a banana plantation and it was still there! We had an amazing time exploring the forest and the plantation that evening and were sad to leave the next day. Our hike back was entirely uphill and took a long time, fortunately or unfortunately (depends how you look at it) it was pouring rain the entire way back.
The next morning, we took a van-bus to Montezuma which is a beach town on the Pacific coast. It was definitely a well deserved relaxing end to our vacation. We also finally saw monkeys and I got attacked by army aunts as we were watching the monkeys in the trees! It hurt A LOT but I did run into the ocean so I was ok in the end :)
On Sunday Jan. 6th 2008 we got to the airport in San Jose with the plan to fly to Vancouver via Phoenix and Las Vegas, however our adventure didn't end there! Our flight was delayed in San Jose and due to winds we had to take off towards the mountains which meant we couldn't take very much fuel. So we had to stop in Acapulco to refuel! We ended up landing in Phoenix about 30mins after our flight to Las Vegas left. The airline decided to give us new tickets direct to Vancouver on TUESDAY! What???!!!! We ended up pulling some serious moves and spending about 1hr running around the airport from the ticket desk to payphone and back (yes, we thought we were on The Amazing Race). We ended up getting a direct flight to Seattle where we rented a car and drove to Vancouver! We were so tired but very happy to finally be home and that our luggage actually made it.
